Athena's Run for GYN Cancers

Every seven minutes a woman is diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer. The economic impact of treating these cancers is staggering, with over $5 billion spent each year in the U.S. alone. But the human toll is worse, with over 28,000 U.S. women dying each year. Although researchers continue to search for more cost effective screening tools and better therapeutic options to detect, treat and prevent these cancers, additional efforts are needed to raise funding and elevate public awareness of gynecologic cancers.
Athena’s Run for Gynecologic Cancers was founded in 2010 in an effort to promote public awareness about these devastating cancers in the Piedmont Triad Region. Over the past 11 years, Athena’s Run has raised over $500,000. Donations are currently being used locally and nationally to support education and advocacy for gynecologic cancers; care of women to prevent, detect and treat gynecologic cancers; and research efforts for gynecologic cancer care and cure.
We all have our reasons for joining the fight against gynecologic cancers, but we share one mission, finding a cure!
